One Year In: Massachusetts Nonprofits Charting a Way Forward
A survey by the Boston Foundation, Massachusetts Nonprofit Network and MassINC Polling Group
March 5, 2026
In March 2025, the Boston Foundation, Massachusetts Nonprofit Network and The MassINC Polling Group partnered on a survey of more than 500 Massachusetts nonprofit leaders, asking about thier expectations for their communities and their organizations in the newly-elected trump administration. Almost universally, they expected that federal actions would harm their communities and make their work more difficult.
One year later, a new poll finds that the reality met expectations. The "One year In" survey finds broad agreement that the state, the nation, their populations served, and their own organizations are worse off than they were a year ago. The survey respondents say several federal policies and decisions have reduced funding, increased demand for services, and made providing those services more difficult.
The survey results are available here as topline findings and crosstabs from MassINC Polling Group, as well as a 4-page briefing capturing key findings. The forum to share these findings, held on March 5, 2026, can be found in the Events section of the website.
