The Boston Foundation names Natalie Herter as Chief Investment Officer

Boston – The Boston Foundation is pleased to announce that Natalie Herter, a longtime investment leader at mission-driven organizations, has been named the Boston Foundation’s new Chief Investment Officer, beginning September 2.

She replaces longtime CIO George Wilson, who announced his intention to step down last fall after more than 18 years guiding the Foundation’s investment portfolio.

Herter comes to TBF after most recently serving as Director of Investments for the Mount Holyoke College Investment Office. Prior to that, she spent over a decade at Cambridge Associates where she ultimately served as a Managing Director and Investment Team lead in the Endowment & Foundation practice, managing clients and portfolios with total assets of roughly $4 billion.

Herter was selected from more than 160 applicants for the role, which oversees investments of the Foundation’s $2.7 billion in assets. Korn Ferry managed the nationwide search, which was guided by a committee of Boston Foundation senior staff, Board members and community investment leaders. She joins the Foundation as it continues to enjoy a period of record asset growth. During Wilson’s nearly two decades as Chief Investment Officer, TBF’s assets more than tripled––from just over $700 million in 2007 to $2.7 billion today. Wilson will work with Herter to ensure an orderly transition in the coming months.

Herter is a graduate of Middlebury College and is a CFA charterholder.
