Paul Grogan Addresses 2013 Annual Meeting

How much fun is My Summer in the City? Take a look at some 2013 highlights!

My Summer in the City seeks to ensure that a range of quality summer programs and activities are available to Boston’s youth and families throughout the summer months. Launched in 2010, this initiative supports a diverse range of programming, reflecting the unique character of the city’s many neighborhoods, with four core elements:

  • Activities and events are based in neighborhood parks and outdoor spaces
  • Programming takes place on weekday evenings and on weekends
  • Employment opportunities are created for youth and young adults
  • Organizations work collaboratively with local community partners to provide programming.

With $600,000 in grants from the Boston Foundation and other funders, My Summer in the City was able to underwrite about  250 youth jobs and support more than 200 free programs and events in 17 neighborhoods and 24 parks last year. The activities included sports tournaments, music lessons, cookouts, movie nights, jump-rope clinics, computer-animation lessons and more.
