Family Wealth in Massachusetts

The most comprehensive survey of its kind in Massachusetts, the Mass ECHOS survey collected usable responses from approximately 5,000 families across the state on family wealth components and used these to calculate net wealth, along with analyses of gifts, inheritances, and estate planning.
The Boston Foundation and strategic partners includng the Barr Foundation, Eastern Bank Foundation and Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce providing funding support for the data collection across Massachusetts. That data, which was then independently analyzed by the Boston Fed, highlights some of the major wealth gaps between and within demographic groups, with breakdowns by race/ethnicity, geography, homeownership, educational attainment and more.
