As a parent, or as a teacher, imagine finding something that takes just 15 minutes a day but can change the trajectory of the school day.
Lindsey Minder, a second grade teacher at Codman Academy in Dorchester, says she may have that thing - mindfulness. Defined as "paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally," mindfulness serves the much larger purpose of bringing students and teachers to a place where they can reset, find context, and transform the way they handle their day.
In her class, Lindsey has found a number of places where "mindful moments", well placed, can help students (and their teachers, too) reset and refocus toward more effective learning. In this podcast with journalist Ethan Bronner, she discusses how she has used mindfulness with her classes, and how she's worked with other age groups and teachers to bring the skills and benefits there.
