TBF awards $1.2 million in Safety Net Grants as part of ongoing commitment to immigrant neighbors

June 10, 2026

Boston—The Boston Foundation, Greater Boston’s community foundation, today announced that it was awarding a total of $1.2 million in grants to 24 Massachusetts organizations as part of an immigrant-focused round of Safety Net Grants. Recipients of the Safety Net Grants, which provide $50,000 in general operating support over two years, were selected by a panel of 50 community reviewers, who reviewed nearly 200 applications from across the state.

“This round of Safety Net Grants wonderfully complements the process we undertook this spring to provide larger unrestricted grants to 10 anchor organizations for immigrant communities in and around Greater Boston,” said Lee Pelton, President and CEO of the Boston Foundation. “Coupling those grants with this round, selected with great deliberation in a community-led, highly engaged process, helps ensure that we are working to support the full breadth of organizations that are supporting and caring for our immigrant neighbors in a time of ongoing cruelty and injustice against them.”

The Boston Foundation has committed over $2.2 million this spring to support immigrant serving organizations throughout the region as part of the Meeting the Moment: Supporting Our Immigrant Neighbors initiative. In addition, the Foundation’s community of donors has stepped up to provide more than $2.5 million in additional support for immigrant-serving organizations since the beginning of the second Trump administration. TBF has also conducted research, advocated for due process and protections for immigrants and brought together key constituencies to broaden understanding of the needs and challenges facing immigrants in Greater Boston and the organizations that are working most closely with them.

“We want to thank the 50 community reviewers who came together to review applications and shaped what is a slate of nonprofits partners that is rich in diversity of mission and geography,” said Candace Burton, Assistant Director, Support for the Social Safety Net at the Boston Foundation and manager of the Safety Net Grants process. “All of these reviewers bring valued perspectives and make it possible for this program to be 100 percent community-led and responsive to the issues, challenges and opportunities facing groups across the state.”
