Early Childhood Coffee & Conversation: When the Bough Breaks

A Workforce Crisis in Early Childhood

December 3, 2021

9:30 AM - 10:30 AM

Since the onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic, childcare providers have struggled to recruit and retain staff. Programs are closing, and childcare seats are difficult to find. Meanwhile, the cost of care here is among the highest in the nation, forcing many parents (primarily mothers) out of the workforce. Unaddressed, this crisis will have disastrous consequences for the Commonwealth.

Join the Boston Foundation online on the first Friday of each month for a conversation series that will seek to understand the dimensions of this crisis, what is being done to address it, and where there is still more to do. Joining us to launch this series will be Commissioner of Early Education and Care, Samantha Aigner-Treworgy. In addition, the Boston Foundation will provide a preview of a forthcoming summary paper of the childcare crisis.
