The Program Associate, Program Effectiveness will work closely with the Senior Manager, Programs Learning and Engagement to support the Foundation’s Nonprofit Sector Infrastructure (NPSI) strategy and Programs Learning and Engagement (L+E) body of work.
The Associate will provide project management support, will work with a team to co-create and implement programming and project management tools. This role will support grantmaking, support internal and external relationships, conduct research, coordinate convenings and events, and handle other duties as assigned. While the Associate’s time will be centered on supporting the NPSI work, the remaining time will aid in L+E’s efforts, including but not limited to: compiling communications for a wide nonprofit audience, managing customer service delivery to serve nonprofit partner inquiries and facilitating data input and tracking initiatives for measurement and evaluation work.
- Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Programs Learning and Engagement the Program Associate will support the development and implementation of various efforts to advance racial equity within Greater Boston nonprofits. This may include: public conversations, grant support for organizations and intermediaries, technical assistance, peer learning and measurement;
- Support the Senior Manager with efforts to further align the work of NPSI with the Foundation’s new vision, Our New Pathway;
- Facilitate grantmaking to NPSI core nonprofit partners, including proposal review, due diligence, and aiding in the development of funding recommendations;
- Conduct research for strategy papers and memos and assist Senior Manager, Programs Learning and Engagement in preparing documents for internal and external use;
- Track the NPSI strategy budget;
- Maintain and support consultant relationships and various contracts;
- Project manage select capacity-building opportunities for Boston Foundation grantees and partners;
- Coordinate, in conjunction with other colleagues, all aspects of meetings, convenings, and other events (including coordinating attendee schedules, invitations, meeting preparation, note taking);
- Maintain strategy calendars and project management tools for both NPSI and L+E activities and initiatives;
- Write the bi-monthly Nonprofit Update e-newsletter, including identifying content items to include;
- Manage the L+E inbox and phone support - providing customer service to nonprofit partner inquiries regarding grants, capacity support and the Foundation’s overall efforts;
- Administer L+E data tracking within platforms such as Salesforce, to support department-wide grantmaking and technical assistance reporting efforts; and
- Participate in the review of grants from programs and funds across the Foundation.

Preparation, Knowledge, Previous Experience:
- 3-4 years related professional work experience;
- Have general knowledge of nonprofit sector organizations, trends, and its workforce;
- Commitment to racial equity and inclusion practices and values as well as an understanding of how those topics intersect with and underpin the nonprofit sector;
- Approaches job functions and related partnerships with a strong learning orientation; and
- Ability to manage projects and use organizational tools to support a complex network of ongoing, unique initiatives as well as cyclical tasks.
Skills, Abilities, Competencies:
- Demonstrated knowledge or experience in nonprofit operations and/or grantmaking due diligence;
- Strong command and understanding of racial equity concepts and current topics within the nonprofit sector;
- Experience with project management involving multiple stakeholders, components, and objectives;
- Proficiency with both cloud and app-based technology platforms and tools (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, Slack, Asana etc.);
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong organizational skills;
