Director, Latino Equity Fund

Position Budgeted: $115,000.00 to $125,000.00

Position Summary:

The Director of the Latino Equity Fund (LEF) is responsible for executing on the vision, mission, priorities and strategies established by the LEF Advisory Board and in coordination with the Boston Foundation’s (TBF) Senior Leadership. Working primarily in partnership with LEF’s Co-Chairs and TBF’s Senior Management Team, this position oversees all activities of the Fund. The Director is the primary liaison between TBFs Senior Management Team and the LEF Advisory Board and is responsible for executing on the growth, fundraising and programming priorities established by the Advisory Board and TBF’s Senior Management Team.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborating with LEF leadership to define the goals, objectives and success criteria for the Fund and its stakeholders; design the strategic approach of the Fund, including growth, grant making and stakeholder engagement; and
  • Working in partnership with the TBF’s Development & Donor Services team, the LEF Director will support the Advisory Committee in fund development; assist with fundraising from individual and institutional donors, inclusive of making asks, identifying new leads and pursuing them; work with Fund leadership and fund administration to monitor donations; work with donor services to field inquiries and acknowledge grants.

Fundraising:

  • Direct responsibility for building strong, mutually beneficial relationships with corporate partners and individuals, focusing on revenue growth; 
  • Working in partnership with the Development & Donor Services team, the LEF Director will support the Advisory Board in fund development in all aspects of the donor life cycle: establishing annual and long term investment strategies, researching and identifying grant prospects; conducting meetings with donors and direct solicitation for gifts, work with donor services to capture and maintain accurate detailed donor and account records, and managing   benchmarks, metrics and reporting to track Fund growth and impact;
  • Collaborating with LEF leadership to define the goals, objectives and success criteria for the Fund and its stakeholders; design the strategic approach of the Fund, including growth, grant making and stakeholder engagement;
  • Working with Communications and Marketing partners to advance communications and marketing plans and seek out opportunities for the LEF to partner with the Boston Foundation on research, grantmaking and sponsorships; and
  • In collaboration with LEF co-chairs and advisory board develop and deliver on a comprehensive fund devolvement plan and donor cultivation strategy.

Program Management:

  • Facilitate and coordinate communications and activities for the volunteer LEF Advisory Board; including scheduling of full council and committee meetings, in collaboration with co-chairs set agenda and capture insights and action items post meeting, maintain consistent communications with co-chairs; 
  • Collaborating with LEF leadership establishes compelling and clear goals, objectives and success criteria for the Fund and its stakeholders; design the strategic approach of the Fund, including growth, grant making and stakeholder engagement; and
  • Maintain a current library of marketing materials (pitch decks, reports, etc.).

External Visibility and Local Engagement:

  • Work with Communications and Marketing partners to advance external visibility for the fund;
  • Plan and seek out opportunities for the LEF to partner with TBF on research, grantmaking, sponsorships, and proprietary events hosted by LEF;
  • Acting as ambassador to represent LEF’s mission and programs externally; and  
  • Assist LEF in its role as a conduit and convener for community providers and non-profits.

Qualifications:

Preparation, Knowledge, Previous Experience:

  • Demonstrated passion for and commitment to LEF’s mission and the Latinx community;
  • Successful leadership role in a matrix organization;
  • A proven track record of fundraising and/or business development experience; 
  • 10+ years in leadership roles of progressive responsibility;
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, implementation, strategy, and/or policy; and
  • Ability to think strategically about the aligning corporate, government, and philanthropic investments to support the mission of the LEF. 

Skills, Abilities, Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with large number of diverse constituencies including donors, volunteers, corporate partners, and community organizations; 
  • Aptitude for engaging with, understanding complex policy issues, and recommending strategies to further organizational goals;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to translate complex topics into clear terms;
  • Desire to continually seek information and look for innovative approaches to processes and practices;
  • Excellent people skills, experience collaborating with diverse groups; 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize; ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines;
  • Knowledge of non-profit administration a plus;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products - especially Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point; Salesforce or other database experience strongly preferred;
  • Excellent data management and reporting skills; and
  • Bilingual in Spanish and/or fluent a plus.


Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time; and
  • Ability to use a keyboard for extended periods of time.

Established in 2013 as a permanent, committee-advised Field of Interest Fund at the Boston Foundation (TBF), the Latino Equity Fund (LEF) is the first Latino-focused fund in Greater Boston and is a unique partnership of Latino philanthropists and leaders.
