Director, Embrace Institute, King Boston

Position Budgeted:  $120,000.00 to $130,000.00

Position Summary: 

The Director, Embrace Institute (DEI) reports to the Executive Director- and working closely as a partner with other team members will be a seasoned leader and coach, with the ability to operate on strategic, managerial, and hands-on levels and will  help guide the organization across programmatic and administrative functions.  The DEI will partner with the Executive Director on fulfilling the mission of King Boston, with a particular focus on narrative change through community engagement, and partnership development while managing our overall policy and research agenda.

Essential Functions:         

  • Facilitate organizational strategic planning processes to identify internal opportunities and challenges;
  • Manage key projects and special initiatives that relate to organizational growth;
  • Develop and manage partner ecosystem strategy and value propositions of different types of partnerships and/or specific partners, working cross-functionally with community, legislative, higher education, non-profit, and business;
  • Monitor partnerships status and conduct monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual reviews on the partnerships to ensure that the outcomes are achieved;
  • Build deep and trusted relationships with partners at both strategic and operational levels;
  • Drive success of partnerships by understanding and finding opportunities to align King Boston and partner strategies;
  • Where applicable, facilitate partner conversations to enable integrations and community solutions;
  • Create and manage outcomes for research and policy agenda to meet King Boston’s 2030 goals;
  • Manage and grow a team of research. policy, strategic partnership, or other team members; and
  • Create an inclusive, energetic team environment that unleashes our people.

Public Policy and Advocacy

  • Actively participate in the development of King Boston’s policy agenda with a particular focus on Boston;
  • Manage team working in the policy area for King Boston;
  • Engage with stakeholders to advocate for King Boston’s policy objectives; 
  • Proactively monitor and analyze legislative initiatives, regulations, and policies;
  • Oversee and/or develop the short-term and long-term policy and financial impacts of major policy initiatives, regulations, legislation, etc.;
  • Manage external legislative and/or advisory relationships as appropriate; 
  • Attend external policy meetings and related policy events on behalf of King Boston;
  • Provides technical assistance and support when need is identified and/or requested; and
  • Assists the Executive Director in developing and executing King Boston’s advocacy and legislative agenda.

Research Capacity

  • Co-create, support, and manage with the Director of Engaged Community Research, King Boston's research agendas, and accompanying work plans working in conjunction with the Director of Engaged Research, Executive Director, Board members, and cross-sector partners;
  • Work with the Director of Engaged Community Research to frame King Boston standards for qualitative and quantitative research and evaluation with the research team;
  • Manages and ignites research projects with the research team;
  • Develops and maintains systems to support research coordination and goals which includes outcomes and impact-related measurements to the organization’s 2030 goals; and
  • Oversees research reports and fact sheets and reviews other materials such as blogs, testimony, and talking points as needed.

External Relations

  • Takes a leadership role in working with partner organizations around key issues;
  • Serves as a leading resource and liaison to local, state, and partner organizations; and
  • Serve as a fundraiser for King Boston as needed.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides coaching, technical and other assistance for other King Boston staff members in general and for newly hired staff as needed;
  • Participates in various King Boston internal meetings, including those related to program planning, resource utilization, and scheduling;
  • Performs other duties as assigned related to the mission of King Boston or to support coalition partners, funders, or other stakeholders; and
  • Individuals assigned to this position may perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Preparation, Knowledge, Previous Experience:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience, Doctorate preferred; 
  • 7-10+ years experience working in a related field; and
  • Able to communicate clearly and with diverse communities

  • Ability to hold a clear vision of partnership agenda and goals that is shared by leadership and staff;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead partnership team toward those goals;
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate trending issues and potential opportunities and consequences accurately;
  • Ability to juggle complex and occasionally shifting timelines;
  • Ability to work constructively with King Boston leadership and board. Ability to prepare written documentation to transfer technical information about concepts, situations, products, services, or results to diverse audiences; and
  • Ability to organize, express, and communicate ideas in a clear, succinct, and accurate manner.

  
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work at workstation for long periods of time; 
  • Ability to use a computer monitor and keyboard for long periods of time; and
  • Ability to work remotely and on-site as required.
