Priority Initiatives

Boston Opportunity Agenda Investments 2To achieve its goals, the Boston Opportunity Agenda is investing in a set of initiatives along the education pipeline. BOA investments are designed to expedite the positive educational outcomes for underserved individuals currently in the education pipeline while surfacing the long-term changes that must be made in our systems to ensure success for all. Our investments also focus on building networks and delivery systems rather than increasing the capacity of a single organization or program.

A Strong Educational Foundation

BOA Thrive in FiveWe are focusing on Thrive in 5, a city-wide partnership that provides a vision and a plan for Boston to ensure that every child enters kindergarten ready to succeed. Thrive in 5 brings together families, early childhood service providers, health and human service providers and the City of Boston to work across systems to support the healthy development and school readiness of our children.

On Track for High School Graduation
The Boston Summer Learning Project (SLP) is a citywide effort aimed at advancing a year-round expanded learning system that connects school, out-of-school time and summer learning. Launched by the Boston Opportunity Agenda in 2010, the SLP aims to reverse summer learning loss; improve skills associated with school, college and career success; and deepen school-community partnerships.

High School Completion
The Boston Opportunity Youth Collaborative is focused on young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who are disconnected from both school and work. The Collaborative meets monthly to share data, research characteristics of Boston’s Opportunity Youth, investigate the available programs and services for them, and map pathways designed to re-engage and support them in education and career. Additionally, youth peer leaders conducted focus groups and surveys through the OYC Youth Voice Project, bringing invaluable insight and experience to bear on the Collaborative’s planning.

Post-Secondary Attainment
Success Boston is a citywide college completion initiative that works to dramatically increase the college completion rate of high school graduates. Together with partner organizations, Success Boston implements a four-part strategy to ensure that students are getting ready, getting in, getting through, and getting connected.
