Each year, the Foundation distributes about $16 million from its Permanent Fund for Boston through a variety of grant-making programs. These programs are open to requests from proven and promising nonprofits that benefit the people of Greater Boston. Before submitting an application, please take the time to read through all of our available Funding Opportunities to determine the funding opportunity most aligned with your organization’s work.  For your reference, you can also review our geographic area served.

Open Door Grants

How to ApplyReady to apply for an Open Door Grant? Please complete the following application checklist:

  • Confirm your organization’s work is within the Foundation’s geographic area served.
  • Review information on Open Door Grants to ensure your organization’s work is eligible for funding and to access the application form.
  • Confirm that you either already have an up to date Giving Common profile or have reached out for an abbreviated profile that is required for submission of an Open Door Grant application.  Giving Common staff are available to support you throughout the process via e-mail and by phone (617-338-1624). Applications will not be considered without having completed an abbreviated profile by the application deadline.

UpliftingIn addition to the above, the Foundation makes grants and strategic investments through a number of special issue-focused programs and initiatives that have varying purposes and application processes, some of which are competitive.
