Investing in Nonprofits
Your Mission. Our Support.
The Boston Foundation is proud to support nonprofit organizations in Greater Boston through our competitive grant making and through a range of work designed to enhance the long-term vitality of the Massachusetts nonprofit sector.
Investing in Nonprofits
All of the work of the Boston Foundation is guided by a strategic framework that we call Thriving People/Vibrant Places, which focuses on a specific set of goals and objectives and informs our competitive grant making. Through this framework, we seek to have a profound impact on important areas of community life—including dramatic improvements in education and wellness; safe and vibrant neighborhoods; robust arts and cultural opportunities; and a regional economy that enables everyone to thrive.

In addition to the Boston Foundation’s
competitive grant making, the Nonprofit Effectiveness Group at the Boston Foundation supports Massachusetts nonprofit organizations through a range of work focused on enhancing the long-term vitality of the Massachusetts nonprofit sector.

In addition to
Competitive Grants, we make grants and strategic investments through several other grant making programs that have varying purposes and application processes.

In addition to our competitive grant programs, the Boston Foundation distributes a significant amount of funds through special issue-focused initiatives. These initiatives are created when the Foundation, often in partnership with other funders, sets aside resources to address particular issues, frequently over a multi-year period. The funding criteria and application process vary by initiative.

The Foundation welcomes community organizations to use our available conference room space for meetings. Nonprofit organizations, professional associations and affiliate organizations may request to use the Boston Foundation’s Conference Rooms.
