The Partnership reports on race and leadership in Boston

A report by The Partnership studies Boston’s progress on race and leadership in the workplace and provides recommendations for improving and sustaining a diverse environment.

Highlights include:

· Boston area professionals of color experienced a 12% and a 5% growth in the categories of "officials and managers" and "professionals" respectively between 1999-2002

· Boston ranks high in the "officials and managers" category but lags behind many other cities in the "professionals" measure

· Only 5% of area board seats are held by non-whites, a measure which has not kept pace with other improvements

· Recommendations include expanding best practices for attracting and retaining recent graduates; increasing corporate and non-boardroom representation by professionals of color; launching a public relations campaign; and developing a consortium of Greater Boston companies and schools
