MassVOTE highlights gains in voter turnout

A new draft report by MassVOTE highlights the gains in voter turnout in the 2004 Presidential Election. It features data at the neighborhood, state (by city) and national level, as well as by several ethnic groups.

  • Mass ranked 13th in Election Day voter turnout, with turnout by 72% of its eligible voters on November 2nd.
  • Boston had a 9.4% gain in voters over 2000, representing an increase from 188,213 to 205,814 voters.
  • Voter turnout increased in most cities, including large gains in precincts with high numbers of Latino and Black voters.
  • Cities with recent influxes of new immigrants had less growth, as many new residents are not citizens.
