Lifelong approaches to weight control pushed for New England

On June 11, 2004, leaders met to inaugurate the implementation phase of the Strategic Plan for Prevention and Control of Overweight and Obesity in New England, a program of the New England Coalition for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (NECON)–Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH).  The science-based Strategic Plan's message emphasizes lifelong approaches to weight control consistent with overall health promotion, nutritional health, and physical activity rather than short-term diets.  Conference proceedings note Massachusetts highlights such as Action for Healthy Kids guidelines for food and beverages in the schools and The Nutrition Minute website with weekly message addressing healthy foods.
