The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative Releases the 2003 Innovation Economy Index

The Executive Index of the Massachusetts Innovation Economy 2003 examines the strengths and weaknesses of the state’s innovation economy consisting of nine growth clusters. Strengths include a relatively high level of venture capital and federal investment, a better educated labor force, an increase of 26.6% in 2002 of new businesses incorporated in the Commonwealth and an augmented number of patents and licenses generated by the state’s research facilities and universities. Concerns include the high cost of housing, domestic population “out-migration,” and the growing need to compete with other states to entice companies to headquarter in state.
