The Giving Common
The Giving Common is a free, online resource that connects you to in-depth information about nonprofits working across Massachusetts. The platform partners with nonprofits as they provide data about their organizations’ financial health, leadership demographics, programs, governance and more. Through their profiles, nonprofits share their stories, in their own words, with donors, funders and the general public. The Giving Common serves as a due diligence tool for institutional funders and enables donors to give to nonprofits by credit card or through their Donor Advised Fund at the Boston Foundation.
Powered by GuideStar, the Giving Common enables each nonprofit to save time and manage its online identity simply by updating its profile at www.givingcommon.org. Their profile is then shared regularly with more than 200 platforms across the web.
Developed by the Boston Foundation, in partnership with local funders and nonprofits, The Giving Common was launched in 2012 and is the second largest and fastest growing platform of its kind. With data from more than 1,000 nonprofits so far, The Giving Common is quickly becoming the authoritative resource for nonprofit sector insights in Massachusetts.

“Thank you for all your support during this campaign! It was a great relief and I think attracted a few new donors outside of our usual pool.” Somerville Homeless Coalition
“Thank you for the time and thought you’ve put behind our Giving Common data inquiries. Being able to look at MA-level data with numerous different sorts has been hugely helpful to us as we help our grantees build capacity.” Local funder
“We really appreciate the depth of information Giving Common provides funders and those interested in knowing our organization better, and the thoughtfulness with which our data was collected and presented. It is a huge resource savings for us, without which, updating GuideStar to be as complete as Giving Common, would not have been a realistic undertaking in the short term.” The Discovery Museums
