Why TBF

For Grant Seekers
A grant from the Boston Foundation sends a signal to other local and national funders that your ideas and programs are relevant to today’s concerns and are administered with professionalism and vision. The Boston Foundation has been making grants since its founding in 1915, and still supports many of the same organizations it supported then. The Foundation also has a long history of supporting fresh ideas and new, innovative solutions to our community’s toughest challenges.
For Donors
Every year, the Boston Foundation helps hundreds of donors fulfill their philanthropic dreams, whether they want to support nonprofit organizations that are serving the community of Greater Boston or make charitable contributions anywhere in the United States or even internationally. Working closely with their professional advisors, we assist our donors as they make the most of their charitable resources today and plan for tomorrow. We’ve been doing it for more than 90 years.
For Professional Advisors
With a rich range of resources to inform professional advisors about the latest trends in planned giving and estate planning, the Boston Foundation enhances the services that attorneys, financial planners and other advisors provide their clients. Working closely with Boston Foundation staff, professional advisors are able to help their clients manage their charitable giving in the smartest and most fulfilling ways possible.
For Civic Leaders and the Business Community
The Boston Foundation has emerged as a major civic leader in 21st century Greater Boston, working with government and business leaders and other civic leaders to tackle the toughest competitive challenges facing our city and the region. By co-convening the John LaWare Leadership Forum as a new civic mechanism to strengthen our region’s position in the global economy, the Foundation stands with the business community to make real progress and build an even greater Greater Boston.
For Information about Greater Boston
Every year, through its Understanding Boston model, the Boston Foundation publishes numerous reports about the issues that are challenging Greater Boston as it moves into the 21st century. From the Greater Boston Housing Report Card to fresh research about health, excellence in education, the arts, government, and the nonprofit sector itself, the Foundation is a major provider of information. In addition, the Boston Foundation’s Boston Indicators Project actively democratizes information about Greater Boston and the region by gathering all of the latest research in one state-of-the-art website. The Project also publishes biennial reports that measure progress that Greater Boston is making in 10 important areas of community life.
