2004 -2006 Indicators Report Cover

The fourth biennial report of the Boston Indicators Project covers the years 2004-2006. It finds that Greater Boston’s economy strengthened considerably but that the region faces persistent challenges in high costs, labor shortages, and growing income inequality. It also emphasizes Boston’s innovative capacity and its potentially revolutionary role at a time of global economic and climatic change.

A FOCUS ON RECENT INNOVATIONS

In Boston and beyond, innovations are being created to measure and track progress across all 10 sectors of the Boston Indicators Project.  In addition to the Hub of Innovation and the MetroBoston Data Common, highlighted below are recent sector-specific innovations that display Boston in a regional, national and international context.

Innovations in Cultural Life & the Arts

The New England Foundation for the Arts has released an updated, core definition of the creative economy which contains a research framework and economic analysis for the purpose of shared measurement throughout the region and the nation.  To see what cultural institutions exist in your neighborhood and how they support the economy, visit the New England Cultural Database, CultureCount.
